A Theory Test can be arranged at
any UK centre and once the test is passed the certificate is
valid for 2 years. It is permissable to drive before you have
passed the Theory Test but until you have passed you have no
entitlement to a Practical Test and will therefore be unable
to book one.
To book a Theory Test contact the national booking service on 0870 0101 372 or you can book it online. You will require your Provisional Licence and a Credit/Debit card.
The current fee is £30.00.
If you would prefer us to arrange it on your behalf simply click HERE to pay by credit/debit card. We charge a £5.00 fee for this service. You will be contacted by telephone once your transaction is received.
It is advisable to do some home study before your exam and you will find a selection of Books, DVD's and Software in our shop. You will also have to do the Hazard Perception test shortly after you complete the written part of the exam.
If you intend to do an intensive course it is advisable to start taking lessons up to the point when you pass your Theory Test. This will give you some road experience and
knowledge which will not only assist you in passing the
Theory Test but could also result in you requiring a shorter course. It will also allow your instructor to assess your ability and will therefore be able to recommend the course best suited to your rate of learning.
If you have passed your Theory Test you can do an intensive course without taking lessons first but you must ensure you select the correct length. If in doubt book a 1 or 2 hour trial assessment lesson.
If you require further advice please talk to us on 0800 321 3060 and we will be pleased to help.
Changes to the theory test for car and motorcycle candidates from 3 September 2007
From 3 September 2007, the number of multiple choice questions in the theory test for car and motorcycle candidates will increase from 35 to 50.
This increase is designed to develop higher driving standards and maximise the test’s potential for road safety and other benefits. The maximum time allowed to complete the multiple choice questions part of the test will be 57 minutes and candidates will need to achieve a pass mark of at least 43 correct responses out of 50.
The updated version of the theory test book and CD Rom are now available to purchase from retailers or by clicking on the official Bookstore button on the DSA website www.dsa.gov.uk
All car and motorcycle candidates calling or going online to book theory tests which will fall either on or after 3 September will be made aware of the increased length and cost of the test. Candidates phoning the call centre will be able to hear a recorded message whilst waiting to be connected and the booking confirmation letter which goes out to candidates will be updated to explain these changes.
